The most powerful thing Georgia has from the air: glaciers, five-thousanders and medieval towers in one valley. And almost nobody else in the sky.
The launch sits at 2,195 metres, Mestia at 1,405 — nearly 800 metres of descent over one of the most beautiful valleys in the Caucasus. Gudauri gives a similar vertical, but the picture here is nothing like it.
Below you are the Svan towers — defensive structures seven or eight centuries old that still stand in the yards of lived-in houses. Around you, glaciers and the wall of the Greater Caucasus; to the north on a clear day, Ushba, one of the most recognisable summits in the world.
The Extended package in Mestia is 35–50 minutes. High-alpine air and strong thermals keep you up longer than anywhere else we fly tandem. It is essentially the Gudauri XC Adventure, over Svaneti.
June to October. Earlier there is still snow in the valley and the road can be closed; later the long cyclones arrive. The best windows are late summer and early autumn, when the air is at its cleanest.
Three packages, priced the same all year. Note the extended one: 35–50 minutes is the longest airtime in our whole tandem programme.
| Package | Airtime | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Standard FlightA calm flight over Svaneti — glaciers and towers beneath you. | 7–10 min | on request |
| Extreme FlightSame airtime, with manoeuvres. | 15–25 min | on request |
| Extended FlightMaximum airtime, working the high-alpine thermals. | 35–50 min | on request |
These prices run all year — there is no summer/winter split here.
Mestia is far, and it needs planning — this is not a day trip from Tbilisi.
This page is about tandem flying: as a passenger, with no experience and no kit of your own. If you have your own wing and came for the routes, you want a different section — XC trips across Georgia.
In Gudauri a cable car takes you to launch, and it sits right by the village. That does not work here: the launches are a long way from any settlement, and you get there in our 4x4s — or on foot with an instructor. That is included; there is no separate line for the drive up.
We arrange the flying permit for the zone as well, and that is in the package too. You cannot simply turn up with your own wing and fly in Georgia — but a tandem passenger never has to think about it.
We fly to the forecast, not to a timetable. We confirm the flying zone the day before, once the forecast is in.
Getting to where the air is working today is always easier than waiting for the weather to arrive where it is not. And we tell you in advance, not at the launch.
We do not guarantee the flight at this exact location: we choose the site by the weather and confirm it 24 hours before. About 95 % of flyable days are in Gudauri. Transfer is not included; you can come by your own or a rental car.
Gudauri has a unique microclimate, which is why most flights take place there; we can arrange a transfer, or you can come on your own.
A 95 GEL / €35 deposit per person confirms the booking and is part of the flight price, not an addition to it. The balance is paid on site, cash or card. Price on request — our manager confirms availability and price for your date. All payments are in Georgian lari.
The go/no-go call is made by the senior instructor. It is final and it is made on safety grounds only — not on the schedule and not on demand.
The refund goes back by the same method you paid with, which is why the bank transfer fee is deducted. Processing takes 5–10 working days. A free reschedule is offered in this case only: when the weather will not let the flight happen.
We say this plainly because it is fairer both ways. Once the drive is paid for, a pilot has no reason to "give it a go anyway" in doubtful air. And that reason is exactly where the bad stories in our sport come from.
Full terms are in our refund policy. The service is provided by Sole Entrepreneur Serhii Mykhailiuta (Georgia), registration number 329338355. For booking, payment and rescheduling: +995 551 355 000, skyatlantidabooking@gmail.com. We reply in about 30 minutes, 09:00–21:00 GMT+4. The meeting point and time are sent once the booking is confirmed.
2,195 metres above sea level. Mestia sits at 1,405 m, so the vertical is about 790 metres.
June to October. The best windows are late summer and early autumn: cleanest air, steadiest weather.
Yes. The Extended package here is 35–50 minutes, the longest in our whole tandem programme. High-alpine air and strong thermals make it possible.
By air into Mestia, or about nine hours by car via Zugdidi. It is not a day trip — plan two or three days.
The launch is far from the village with no cable car to it, so you get up by 4x4 or on foot with an instructor. We also arrange the zone permit. All of that is already inside the price.
In clear weather, yes. Ushba stands to the north and is visible from the Mestia valley.
Send us your dates and how many days you have in Mestia — we will tell you which window to aim for and price the drive up.
