Why Gudauri is the main location

Gudauri sits on the watershed of the Greater Caucasus, about two kilometres up. There are more than four launch sites here, at different altitudes and different aspects — which means there is almost always one that works today.

That is why Gudauri flies when the other locations are shut. Around 75% of all our flights go from here, and this is also where we bring guests whose weather did not work out in another region.

What you will see

Below you, the Georgian Military Highway and the Aragvi canyon; around you, the ranges of the Greater Caucasus. On a clear day Mt. Kazbek, 5,054 m, stands to the north — the same mountain you see from Stepantsminda, just from another angle.

Winter and summer are two different flights

• Summer, 16 April – 4 December. Green slopes, long days, the longest flights. In the heat we start earlier, while the air is calmer.
• Winter, 5 December – 15 April. Snow, ski season, short and spectacular flights. We can launch on skis if you want.

Getting there, and how the day works

120 kilometres from Tbilisi up the Georgian Military Highway — about two hours each way. The road passes the Zhinvali reservoir and Ananuri fortress and is worth the trip on its own.

1. 07:00–09:00 — leave Tbilisi if you are coming for the day. We set the exact time from the forecast.
2. Meeting point — Café Bar PILOT, New Gudauri, Loft 1. Every flight starts here: meet-up, briefing and the shuttle to launch.
3. The flight — you take a few steps on the run-up, the pilot does the rest.
4. Back — in Tbilisi by evening. Budget 8–10 hours for the whole day.

• Your own car — in winter the stretch above Pasanauri needs winter tyres and sometimes chains; heavy snow can close the road temporarily.
• Marshrutka from Didube — the cheapest way, 2.5–3 hours, but its timetable has nothing to do with the weather window.
• Transfer — we collect you from your hotel and bring you back. We will price it for your group.

If you fly your own wing

One honest note about the weather

We fly to the forecast, not to a timetable. We confirm the flying zone the day before, once the forecast is in.

Getting to where the air is working today is always easier than waiting for the weather to arrive where it is not. And we tell you in advance, not at the launch.

Deposit and cancellation

A 95 GEL / €35 deposit per person confirms the booking and is part of the flight price, not an addition to it. The balance is paid on site, cash or card. The full price here runs from 349 to 649 GEL depending on the package, and all payments are in Georgian lari.

One exception — when we are the ones who cannot fly

The go/no-go call is made by the senior instructor. It is final and it is made on safety grounds only — not on the schedule and not on demand.

1. We offer a free reschedule to a date and time that suit both you and us.
2. If the reschedule does not suit either side — we refund the deposit less the transfer fee and any services already rendered.

The refund goes back by the same method you paid with, which is why the bank transfer fee is deducted. Processing takes 5–10 working days. A free reschedule is offered in this case only: when the weather will not let the flight happen.

What counts as a cancellation on your side

• you cancelled the booking;
• you did not arrive on time — you need to be there 30 minutes before the booked activity starts;
• you declined to take part on site, or did not meet the stated requirements (weight, health).

We say this plainly because it is fairer both ways. Once the drive is paid for, a pilot has no reason to "give it a go anyway" in doubtful air. And that reason is exactly where the bad stories in our sport come from.
