The one place in our programme where a medieval fortress, turquoise water and mountains land in the same frame. And it is only ninety minutes from Tbilisi.
The launch sits on a ridge at 1,700 metres; the water is at 820. Eight hundred and eighty metres of descent: from the first seconds the turquoise sheet of the Zhinvali reservoir opens beneath you, framed by wooded slopes.
On its shore stands Ananuri fortress, a 16th–17th century complex of towers, walls and a church. It was the seat of the Aragvi eristavis, the feudal house that held the Aragvi valley and the road through it for centuries. From the air you see the whole complex at once, against the water.
The Zhinvali reservoir is fed by glacial melt off the Caucasus — hence the turquoise-emerald cast that looks almost unreal in photographs. It is fullest in spring; by late summer the shorelines widen.
Mid-mountain flying: the air is gentler than Gudauri, the launch is calm, the valley is wide. A good place for a first flight — and still with nearly a kilometre of vertical rather than a hill.
Three packages, priced the same all year — there is no seasonal split here.
| Package | Airtime | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Standard FlightA calm panoramic flight over the reservoir and the fortress. | 10–12 min | on request |
| Extreme FlightSame airtime, with spirals and wingovers. | 10–12 min | on request |
| Extended FlightMaximum airtime — soaring over the Aragvi valley. | 15–25 min | on request |
These prices run all year — there is no summer/winter split here.
70 kilometres from Tbilisi up the Georgian Military Highway — about an hour and a half. It is the closest mountain location to the capital in our programme.
This page is about tandem flying: as a passenger, with no experience and no kit of your own. If you have your own wing and came for the routes, you want a different section — XC trips across Georgia.
In Gudauri a cable car takes you to launch, and it sits right by the village. That does not work here: the launches are a long way from any settlement, and you get there in our 4x4s — or on foot with an instructor. That is included; there is no separate line for the drive up.
We arrange the flying permit for the zone as well, and that is in the package too. You cannot simply turn up with your own wing and fly in Georgia — but a tandem passenger never has to think about it.
We fly to the forecast, not to a timetable. We confirm the flying zone the day before, once the forecast is in.
Getting to where the air is working today is always easier than waiting for the weather to arrive where it is not. And we tell you in advance, not at the launch.
We do not guarantee the flight at this exact location: we choose the site by the weather and confirm it 24 hours before. About 95 % of flyable days are in Gudauri. Transfer is not included; you can come by your own or a rental car.
Gudauri has a unique microclimate, which is why most flights take place there; we can arrange a transfer, or you can come on your own.
A 95 GEL / €35 deposit per person confirms the booking and is part of the flight price, not an addition to it. The balance is paid on site, cash or card. Price on request — our manager confirms availability and price for your date. All payments are in Georgian lari.
The go/no-go call is made by the senior instructor. It is final and it is made on safety grounds only — not on the schedule and not on demand.
The refund goes back by the same method you paid with, which is why the bank transfer fee is deducted. Processing takes 5–10 working days. A free reschedule is offered in this case only: when the weather will not let the flight happen.
We say this plainly because it is fairer both ways. Once the drive is paid for, a pilot has no reason to "give it a go anyway" in doubtful air. And that reason is exactly where the bad stories in our sport come from.
Full terms are in our refund policy. The service is provided by Sole Entrepreneur Serhii Mykhailiuta (Georgia), registration number 329338355. For booking, payment and rescheduling: +995 551 355 000, skyatlantidabooking@gmail.com. We reply in about 30 minutes, 09:00–21:00 GMT+4. The meeting point and time are sent once the booking is confirmed.
1,700 metres above sea level. The reservoir sits at about 820 m, so the vertical is roughly 880 metres.
70 km up the Georgian Military Highway, about an hour and a half. Budget 5–6 hours for the whole outing.
Yes — Ananuri is right on the road to both. Mention it when you book and we will line it up.
Yes, the location works all year. The price list is year-round too, with no seasonal split.
In Gudauri a cable car takes you up and it is right by the village. Here the launch is far from any settlement and you get there by 4x4 or on foot with an instructor — that is included in the price, not billed separately.
Pilot and equipment, transport up to launch, the flying permit for the zone, GoPro Full HD video, insurance and the briefing. Accommodation is not included, but we can arrange it.
Send us the date and how many of you there are — we will price the transfer and tell you whether it is worth combining with a Gudauri trip.
